New GMAS Questions for Data Management & Sharing Plan Implementation

Effective January 3, 2023

As part of the University’s efforts to prepare for the January 25, 2023 effective date of the new NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy, the University has determined that GMAS will serve as the system of record for data management and/or sharing plans (DMSPs) associated with sponsored proposals/awards. DMSPs, if required, are generally submitted to the sponsor as part of the standard application package, which is already stored in GMAS, and if a sponsor requires submission of a DMSP, adherence to the DMSP is typically included as part of the terms and conditions of the award (as is the case with the new NIH policy).

Effective Tuesday, January 3, 2023, two new questions will be added to the “school specific information” section of GMAS for HMS/HSDM initial, competing, supplement, and continuation requests. Refer to the OSP Blog for more information.

Please note: If you are aware of any PIs submitting NIH proposals for deadlines on or closely following the January 25, 2023 effective date (February 5th deadline, March 5th deadline etc.), enter a shell in GMAS. This will enable the HMS Data Management & Sharing Policy Working Group to target initial outreach efforts to faculty who will encounter the new requirements first.
