University Digital Accessibility Policy and Resources

Policy Updates Effective June 1, 2023

As announced on Tuesday, April 11th, the University is expanding its Digital Accessibility Policy. Effective June 1, 2023, all new digital content created and used internally across the University, including at HMS, should aim to meet the same standards for accessibility as public-facing content. Additionally, technology systems, platforms, and applications bought or built by the University, schools, and units should meet the most recent web accessibility standards.

If you are part of a team that builds and/or manages web applications, websites, documents, and multimedia — research-based or otherwise — hosted on the hms.harvard.edu domain, be aware that these applications should also aim to meet the accessibility standards stated in the Digital Accessibility Policy.

Please take the time to learn how you can plan to meet these expectations as they apply to your work.

If you are responsible for creating and maintaining digital content and/or making technology purchases, we encourage you to:

  • Read the FAQs about the policy.

  • Attend a Digital Accessibility Services (DAS) drop-in Q&A session on Thursday, April 13, or

  • Attend a virtual DAS office hours session to learn more.

Visit the Digital Accessibility Services website for resources, policy trainings, and guides on getting started with accessibility. You can also contact DAS directly at digitalaccessibility@harvard.edu with any questions or reach out to our dedicated HMS digital accessibility liaison, Ben Sharbaugh (benjamin_sharbaugh@hms.harvard.edu).
