Updates to NRSA Childcare Costs Guidance

National Research Service Award (NRSA)

A few minor updates were made to Harvard’s NRSA Childcare Cost Guidance based on the childcare subsidy increase that was announced by NIH in NOT-OD-24-116. The change is replacing language with references to the “$2,500” subsidy with “childcare subsidy.” Review the terms and conditions of your awards for the amount allowed.

NIH provides childcare cost support to recipients of full-time National Research Service Award (NRSA) fellowships and full-time predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees appointed on NRSA institutional research training awards. This is in recognition of the high cost of childcare that impacts graduate students and post-doctorates funded through NRSA fellowships, and hinders their ability to successfully complete their training and fully participate in the extramural research workforce.
